European Civil Aviation Team to train Pakistan Airport staff for First Time
In a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing aviation safety standards, a European Civil Aviation team is scheduled to visit Pakistan next week to conduct specialized training sessions for airport regulators. This marks the first instance of such an initiative being undertaken in the country, signifying a major step forward in aligning Pakistan’s aviation security framework with international norms.
The training will take place at Islamabad International Airport and will focus on critical aspects of aviation security, particularly the use of Explosives Trace Detection (ETD) systems and Explosive Detection Dogs (EDD). These components are essential tools in modern airport security, used widely across global aviation hubs to prevent unlawful interference and ensure passenger safety.
The training program is being conducted under the directive of the European Union (EU) and is facilitated in collaboration with Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The CAA has confirmed that this partnership aims to enhance the skill set of Pakistani aviation security personnel, ensuring that their practices are in line with global safety and regulatory standards. The knowledge transfer through this training will not only improve operational efficiency but also help rebuild international confidence in Pakistan’s aviation system.
This initiative comes in the wake of significant developments in Pakistan’s aviation sector. The European Union recently lifted a longstanding flight ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), a decision that had been awaited since 2020. Additionally, private carrier Airblue has also been authorized to operate flights to European destinations. These positive developments indicate growing trust in Pakistan’s aviation oversight and regulatory measures.
The upcoming training reflects a broader effort to reinforce aviation safety, improve international collaboration, and pave the way for a more robust and globally integrated aviation sector in Pakistan.
